Situated at the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordering the Jefferson National Forest, Thunder BRidge has scenic, large, private tent sites and cabins in the woods for those who want to experience camping at its finest. Many of the sites border Elk Creek. Our RV sites are large, flat and at the edge of the forest in a well kept open green space. Our 100 acres was originally a camp built by the Civilian Conservation Corp in the "30s and early '40s, then a boys' juvenile detention center and Big Brothers'/Big Sisters' camp, which closed in 2009. The tent sites and cabins are in the forest, away from the buildings out front, but you're free to walk around and check out the historic site. We'd like to share the camp with others and see it come back to life. All within a short driving distance are the Natural Bridge, wineries, breweries, Natural Bridge Zoo, Safari Park, Dinosaur Kingdom, Appalachian Trail, Blue Ridge Parkway, James River, historic Lexington, Devil's Marbleyard, Glenwood Horse Trail, swimming holes, etc. We have river access 2 miles up the road if you'd like to fish or put your kayak or canoe in. Truly, there is something nearby for everyone. We'd be happy to give you recommendations of things to see and do. If you are a star gazer you won't be disappointed by our dark sky.

Site 7 (aka Fox 1)
We brought our family for memorial day weekend and had a great time at sites 6 & 7! Close to the creek (which you can hear while sleeping) and bathhouses. Adam is a fantastic host and had great communication working up towards our check-in. Campground is incredibly well-maintained with lots to do an only a short drive from some great swimming holes, caverns, hikes, state park, and general store that we all enjoyed. Would definitely stay again!

Site 6 (aka Woodpecker 7)
We loved bringing our family to Thunder Bridge. A very well-maintained campground in the woods with lots to do (the kids particularly loved splashing around in the creek). Swimming holes, hiking, caverns, state parks, and general store all within a short drive. Aaron was also a fantastic host and made sure we were settled in well and taken care of. Would definitely return if in the area!

Site 1 (aka Bunny 2)
This location was very nice. Our tent site was huge and had a lot of buffer between us and the other sites, so it was very private. The showers had hot water and were clean, and there was a kitchen area with water and a power strip in case we needed to charge anything. Also, the firewood was worth every penny, it lasted us 2 nights which was just what we needed. Really, we only spent evenings at the site because we were out hiking around natural bridge all day. But when we came back for the nights and sat around the campfire, and looked at the stars, it was a very memorable experience. Would highly, highly recommend Thunder BRidge!

Nice and Quiet
Had a great time! Adam is an excellent host; he had our pre-ordered firewood already stacked at the fire pit and guided us to our site. The campground is beautiful with plenty of hiking trails and access to a wonderful creek. Plenty of wild life to see. Very convenient location to quite a few attractions and stores. The shower facility was spacious and clean. No sewer hook-up, but the dumping station was easily accessible and a nice touch. Will definitely stay there again!

Stayed at Woodpecker 1. Camp site was great. Cabin was clean and cots made for an easy alternative. Adam was an awesome host and helped make the stay great. Definitely recommend staying here.

Thunder Bridge Cabin 2 (Parcell)
Adam was an amazing host! All of the facilities were clean (including the outhouse). I've camped nearby before and had no idea this was even there! What a hidden gem this camp is. We enjoyed the serene location and hearing the creek all night. On our last night we were serenaded by the sound of the rain on the tin roof. I 100% would recommend to anyone that can camp rough (no power, limited wifi, limited comforts). It was exactly what I hoped it would be and would love to come back.
